What Can You Learn at Lighthouse Labs?

Lighthouse Labs offers five programs designed to prepare you for careers in data science and web development. These comprise 12-week immersive programs and six-week introductory courses that can be taken full-time and part-time.

Web Development Bootcamp Program

First in the Lighthouse Labs lineup is its immersive web development program, which requires 40 hours of study each week. The program boasts an extensive curriculum designed to walk you through different programming languages and frameworks used in software development. This includes learning about HTML, CSS, Ruby, React, and Ruby on Rails.

You will also learn about the best practices and methodologies in software architecture and automated testing. All of these are essential to becoming a professional developer. Instead of the traditional four-year computer science degree, Lighthouse Labs promises to help you find a job in software engineering and web development in just 12 weeks.

Lighthouse Labs backs your training with extensive career coaching sessions to optimize your job search experience. You will have plenty of interviews and resume preparations as well as networking and employer outreach opportunities.

For $13,000 (CAD) (approx. $10,300 USD), you can enjoy the program’s training component, the school’s career services, and lifetime access to job resources. If you are not seeking a career and just in need of training, you can avail of the non-job seeker discount at $9,500 (CAD) (around $7,540 USD).

Data Science Bootcamp Program

Lighthouse Labs’s data science program comes with 70 hours of prep modules that you must complete before class begins. This component seeks to familiarize you with the data science concepts you will be dealing with during the immersive program.

You will jump right into the go-to language of data scientists and data analysts, Python, from the start. You will also learn about the processes within a typical data science project life cycle from cleaning, visualizing, and interpreting data. Expect to cover more advanced topics like data engineering, machine learning, and deep learning later on.

Similar to the web development program, this also comes with the option to avail of career services.

Intro Data Analytics

For $2,000 (CAD) (about $1,590 USD), attend an instructor-led live class on data analytics. You will get to work with real-world data sets in marketing campaign analysis, social media engagement, and customer support efficiency.

This is a great introductory class for people with little experience in data analysis. It is also a good preparatory course for those who intend on applying for Lighthouse Labs’s immersive data science program.

Intro to Front End with JavaScript

This is a great course for those interested on the client side of development. This introductory course will teach you how to build a web page from scratch. With programming languages HTML, CSS, and JavaScript, you’ll learn how to cover all the bases of a web page. That includes its structure, style, and functionality.

This course is ideal for beginners who aspire to become web designers and future bootcamp program students. It can also serve digital marketers and product managers looking to expand their skill set.

Intro to Web Development

If, however, you are interested in learning web development from both ends, then this Intro to Web Development program is a good fit for you. This is a 101 class in frontend and backend development, covering topics you will need before you advance to more advanced learning. You will learn to program in HTML, CSS, HTTP, Github, and Sinatra.

This course is ideal for beginners who want to become web developers and future bootcamp students. It’s also a good reviewer for entrepreneurs and junior developers who want to learn about the latest trends and tools in building apps and web pages.

Admissions: How Do You Get Accepted to Lighthouse Labs

You only need to prove that you have the right skillset and mindset to get into Lighthouse Labs. The school is keen on getting students who are passionate about coding and have a high aptitude for learning. This is especially crucial for applicants who have no prior coding experience or knowledge.

Lighthouse Labs Application Process

The application process at Lighthouse Labs consists of four steps. It begins with completing the online application found on the school’s website. This application form requires details about your education, experience, and career goals. After you complete filling the form, book a group interview with Lighthouse Labs.

After, you will sit for various technical assessment tests. The tests will assess your coding and logical reasoning skills. The school will give you ample study materials to review before the test.

Then, Lighthouse Labs will take you through the prep course. Here, you will learn all you need to know before you dive deep into the immersive Lighthouse Labs programs.

Lighthouse Labs Interview

The Lighthouse Labs admissions team will ask you questions regarding coding as well as your availability, willingness to commit, and how you respond to certain situations. Check the official website for blogs on how to answer the coding bootcamp interview questions.

Paying for Lighthouse Labs

A Lighthouse Labs education is more affordable than some coding bootcamps. The full-time courses cost approximately $10,300. The part-time courses go for at least $1,390. If you decide to study at Lighthouse Labs, you will have access to the multiple payment options available.

Income Share Agreement (ISA)

Lighthouse Labs does not offer any income share agreement.

Upfront Payment

You can choose to pay the entire fee upfront instead of breaking it down. This is a good option for students who can afford to pay out of pocket before classes start. If you pay upfront, you immediately qualify for a discount.

GI Bill

Lighthouse Labs is a Canadian bootcamp. Hence it does not accept the GI Bill, but there are available payment options for Canadian veterans. You can check the website for more details on how to go about it.

Installments

At Lighthouse Labs, you can pay your tuition fee in installments. Deposit up to 10 percent of the full tuition payment before the program starts and pay in monthly installments thereafter. You can pay using credit card, e-transfer, or a bank draft.

Private Student Loans

Applying for a private loan to cover tuition fees is the most popular option among students. Lighthouse Labs, in partnership with the local government, provides students loans to help you study. If you live in Alberta or British Columbia, you immediately qualify for the Government of Canada’s Student Aid.

Scholarships

Lighthouse Labs acknowledges the negative impact COVID-19 has on so many families and individuals. The school committed CAD 1 million (approximately $800,000) to support any student affected financially by the pandemic. You immediately qualify for this grant if you lost your job, especially because of the pandemic.

If you qualify for the Lighthouse Labs scholarship fund, you will receive CAD 3,000 (about $2,380) to CAD 5,000 (about $3,970) to cover your tuition for a full-time course. If you select a part-time course, you are entitled to CAD 750 (about $600). To apply for the scholarship, you only need to fill out a form and write an essay detailing why you deserve it.

What Makes Lighthouse Labs Unique?

Lighthouse Labs is an excellent coding bootcamp that offers comprehensive training for anyone who wants to become a web developer or data scientist. The school also boasts a high job placement rate. It reports that 95 percent of its job-seeking graduates get employed within six months from graduation with the help of instructors, mentors, and career coaches.

Most learning institutions do not take into account how the mentor-student ratio can affect the quality of education. To ensure you get the most out of your class, Lighthouse Labs only allows a maximum of eight students per teacher. This gives you access to seeking support from your mentor eight hours each day.

If you are looking for extensive training and support, consider enrolling in Lighthouse Labs.

The Data Incubator Reviews and Key Information

The Data Incubator is a data science bootcamp for STEM degree holders and professional data scientists or data analysts looking to upskill. While headquartered in Boston, the Data Incubator also has campuses in New York City, Washington D.C., and San Francisco.

Known to be one of the best data science bootcamps, the Data Incubator is a top pick for a higher level of data science training. If the Data Incubator is one of your prospective bootcamps, then you’ve come to the right place.

This Data Incubator review will walk you through the key features of the bootcamp. That includes its programs, curricula, tuition costs, and even its job placement services. By the end of this guide, you will have a better grasp of whether the Data Incubator is the right coding bootcamp for you.

The Data Incubator at a Glance

Cost of Tuition $2,895 – $17,000
Financing Options Income Share Agreement, Upfront Payment, Private Student Loans, Scholarships
Courses Offered Data Science Essentials, Data Science Fellowship
Career Services and Job Assistance Career Coaching, Network of Industry Partners

What Can You Learn at Data Incubator?

Data Incubator has two major programs: Data Science Essentials and Data Science Fellowship. Both programs work with real-world datasets, allowing students to gain hands-on experience as they learn the fundamental theories and principles of the field.

Data Science Essentials

This is an eight-week online program for people who don’t have prior work experience in data science but want to get into the Data Incubator’s Data Science Fellowship program. It’s also perfect for data analysts or software engineers who wish to switch to enter the data science field.

The program includes instructor-led classes that cover the fundamental aspects of data science, preparing students for more advanced studies. There are classes dedicated to teaching you the fundamentals of quantitative analysis, data statistics, data extraction, object-oriented programming, and Python for data science.

Despite being a foundations course, interested applicants must have basic knowledge of statistics and programming to excel in the class. The program also does not hold out on hands-on training courtesy of short projects that require the use of real-world datasets.

Data Science Fellowship

This is a certificate fellowship program that runs for eight weeks full-time and 20 weeks part-time. The program is perfect for professionals looking for a skill-boost for career advancement or individuals who wish to transition from academia.

Topics include data visualization, data structures, algorithms, navigating data science tools like Hadoop, and applying machine learning and big data analysis techniques. You will also learn Python and SQL, both of which are known as the resident data science programming languages.

Being an immersive program, taking the full-time option means hitting a pause on other commitments as you are expected to commit 45 hours of your week studying. If that doesn’t sound like a feasible option, consider taking the part-time option.

The schedule is flexible enough to maintain your studies without compromising other responsibilities. Just put aside eight hours of your time per week to attend evening classes.

Admissions: How Do You Get Accepted to the Data Incubator?

The Data Incubator has an acceptance rate of a mere two percent, so getting into the bootcamp will not be easy. This isn’t unusual for a fellowship program that only admits students with advanced STEM degrees or extensive experience in a data-related role. The requirements are looser for the bootcamp’s Data Essentials program.

Having these credentials is only the tip of the iceberg. You should still go through the Data Incubator’s application process.

The Data Incubator Application Process

The application process at The Data Incubator happens in stages, with the completion of the entire process taking about six weeks. It starts with filling an online application form on the bootcamp’s website. The website is intuitive so you should not run into any trouble filling in the required details.

After filling in your details, wait for an advisor to send you the coding test. This stage is crucial since failing the test means you cannot move on to the next stage. The advisor will give you 72 hours to complete the test and submit it.

Students who pass the coding test can move on to the next stage of the admissions process, which will see you sitting through an interview with a school representative. This is the last stage of the application process.

The Data Incubator Interview

The interview stage is vital in informing the decision of the admissions board. The interviewer will ask you questions about your experience with data science. You will also be asked questions about why you chose data science and how far you intend to push for a career in the field.

Keep in mind that the interviewer’s goal is to find out more about you, your goals, and your motivations to see if you are a good fit for the bootcamp. At the same time, your goal is to determine whether the bootcamp’s programs and teaching style meet your learning needs. So, don’t hesitate to ask questions of your own during the interview.

Paying for the Data Incubator

Attending the Data Incubator’s fellowship program generally costs $10,000 when taken online and $17,000 when taken in person. The foundations program, meanwhile, costs $2,895. You can pay for your tuition through one of four options: upfront payment, private loans, income share agreements, and scholarships.

Upfront Payment

With this option, you can enjoy the early registration discount of $2,000. Even when you pay during the regular registration timeline, you will get a tuition discount that ranges from $1,000 to $1,400. You will not qualify for the discount if you opt for any of the other payment plans.

Income Share Agreement (ISA)

This works like every other ISA: you attend the program without paying the full tuition and pay later when you’ve landed a job that pays at least $40,000. You can pay monthly percentages from your salary.

Once you hit the income threshold, you are expected to pay a particular percentage of your income. While an ISA means that you do not have to pay upfront, you may need to make a small deposit before attending lectures.

Private Student Loans

Private loans are the perfect option for people who cannot afford to pay upfront and are not comfortable with an ISA. You can take out a loan via the Data Incubator’s loan provider partner Ascent Funding.

If you opt for a Ascent Funding loan, you may choose among three repayment options: deferred repayment, interest-only repayment, or immediate repayment.

Scholarships

The Data Incubator offers fully-funded scholarships to fellows with exceptional backgrounds in data science. Only a few people qualify for this scholarship, so you can apply if you believe your credentials are impressive enough.

What Makes the Data Incubator Unique?

The Data Incubator has a proven track record as one of the most successful data science bootcamps for individuals with advanced STEM degrees. Even if all its programs are delivered online, the quality of education it delivers remains high. One of its defining features is the heightened focus on providing hands-on training.

The Data Incubator has many hiring partners that tap into the bootcamp’s graduate pool. Students who get jobs with The Data Incubator’s hiring partners get 50 percent of their tuition back as a placement fund. Only a few bootcamps offer placement funds to candidates after helping them get jobs.

Thanks to bootcamp’s career coaching and mentorship programs as well as its extensive employer network, Data Incubator reports a job placement rate of 82 percent. Most Data Incubator graduates get their first job within six months after they finish the program.

Ironhack has an acceptance rate of a little over 20 percent, so it isn’t the easiest bootcamp to get into. However, if you are prepared and understand the process prior to applying, you have a much stronger chance of making it in.

Ironhack Application Process

The first step in the process is to complete the online application. This is when you can select which program, schedule, and location you prefer. After submitting the application, you will be contacted by Ironhack to schedule an interview.

If you pass the interview stage, you will be asked to complete an online challenge to test your analytical and logical skills. This test consists of 20 to 25 questions and has a time limit of 60 minutes. Once you pass this test, you will wait to hear back from admissions to see if you have been accepted or not.

Ironhack Interview

The interview is often seen as the most challenging part of the application process, but it is not as intimidating as it seems. The purpose of the interview is to determine if you are a good fit for Ironhack’s programs.

You can expect questions about your motivation, career path, and career goals. Admissions counselors will want to be sure you have the motivation and dedication necessary to complete the program. You will also be able to ask the interviewer questions, so be sure to prepare a list of things you want to know.

Paying for Ironhack

As is the case with many coding bootcamps, there are a few different ways you can finance your education. Whether you prefer to pay Ironhack tuition all at once or through a payment plan, there are plenty of options to help you deal with debt. It is important to note that payment methods do vary based on location.

Income Share Agreement

An income share agreement, or ISA, is an option that allows you to defer tuition until you find a job. Typically, you have up to six months post-graduation to find a job paying $40,000 per year or more. At this point, an agreed-upon percentage of your annual income will go to Ironhack until your tuition is paid off. Keep in mind that you usually have to pay a deposit.

Upfront Payment

If you don’t want to deal with months of recurring payments, upfront payment is a great option. For those who can afford it, an upfront payment allows you to pay the entirety of the tuition for your program all at once when you register for the course. You can avoid further payments and focus on your studies.

Private Student Loans

Ironhack has partnered with many loan providers all over the world to help students finance their education. You can apply for private student loans to help pay for your tuition, often with little to no interest fees. Check your area to see what loans you might qualify for.

What Makes Ironhack Unique?

The most unique part of Ironhack is its campuses. Most coding bootcamps are located in one area. Ironhack, on the other hand, has campuses all over the world. You can choose to study in Amsterdam, Barcelona, Berlin, Lisbon, Madrid, Mexico City, Miami, Paris, São Paulo, or even remotely from anywhere in the world.

If you want to learn web development, UX/UI design, data analytics, or cyber security, Ironhack is the perfect coding bootcamp for you. You can spend time traveling and studying, earn a certificate, and use the Careerhack services to find employment in no time. This coding bootcamp is certainly one of a kind.
